Clay's class had another field trip on Monday. this time we went to the marine science institute in redwood city. we got to spend the day on a ship and cruised around the bay. but it wasn't just a leisure cruise... the kids threw out a net and pulled in some fish, took water samples and studied the differences in the water, took some mud samples from the bottom of the bay ( using this really cool claw-thing), and looked at all the plankton on the water through microscopes. it was a great learning experience for the kids and it also educated them on the impact humans have on the San Fransisco bay. i had a great time... i really love this group of kids and Ive become pretty good friends with their awesome teacher, Becky!
here's the boys: such hams!
silly heads
chillin before boarding the ship
classroom for the day: on a ship!
best friends: clay and thomas ( he's clay's "brotha from anotha motha". ha ha ha! the boys taught me that little saying!)
a quick lesson in net-fishing
waiting to see what they caught
we caught tons of fish, including some rays and a leopard shark! i liked this little guy: he was flat and both eyes were on top of his head... definitely a bottom-dweller ha ha.
my mr. man. it was clay's first time on a ship. he's been on tons of little boats when we go to Alaska, but he's always been a little scared of going out on a big body of water like a bay or ocean . but he loved it! now i just need to convince him to go halibut fishing with me when we go to Alaska.... but the boat is a lot smaller, and the waves are a lot more intense. i know chloe would do it in a heart beat ha ha ha!
